If one thing has become clear to me through my work with students — from traditional students entering college from high school to adult undergrads and PhD candidates — it is that success in higher education, like almost any life endeavor, is a function of self-development. The stronger you become as an individual, the more you are able to step into your own voice and declare, “I am!”, the more you’ll then be able to achieve – and you’ll have so much fun, too! PS – That’s me at a 30th birthday party for my piano teacher whose friends, many of them from his and his wife’s college days, had come together to celebrate with him. I felt honored to be included. It’s really true that the relationships you develop in high school and college can last a lifetime. In fact, the very first person I met when I arrived at my dorm the University of Rochester with a carload of belongings (that’s a story for another day) just contacted me through Facebook!
